Construction

Planning permission has been approved, subject to certain conditions which we are working hard to discharge as quickly as possible. Natural Resources Wales have completed a £6.5M upgrade to the town’s flood defences. Thanks to their fantastic support and cooperation, the design of those flood defences was such that it incorporated the additional civil engineering works to accommodate the railway.

The Trust contributed nearly £300,000 for this work thanks to the support of Visit Wales and the outstanding generosity of our supporters. To have had this support and have done the work now, has, with the economies of scale, saved the project hundreds of thousands of pounds.

We are now starting a campaign to raise funds to buy enough track to lay from the existing station to the new station site. Fortunately, the groundwork for the area shown below covers nearly a third of the route.
