Christmas has come early to the Bala Lake Railway.

The railway has taken delivery of four Lynton & Barnstaple style coaches generously donated by The Statfold Barn Railway.

These coaches were originally built by Alan Keef and acquired by Statfold Barn Country Park from the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway at Woody Bay.

Now donated by Statfold Barn to the BLR they comprise:

No.1 – A brake 3rd with guards compartment, No.2 – All 3rd, No.3 – Brake Composite with a first class compartment, No. 4 – All 3rd.

The railway is hugely grateful for this incredible gesture and greatly look forward to seeing them behind one of their five Quarry Hunslets next season.

Julian Birley, chairman of the Bala Lake Railway Trust, said:

“This is just an incredible boost to the railway and its future plans of extending into Bala.
This now gives the railway three rakes of four coaches giving a greater capacity to entertain the increased number of passengers expected when the centre of the town is reached

With the long drawn out negotiations that have been on going in applying for planning permission from the Snowdonia National Park, it is great to see something actually associated with railways coming to the fore rather than dealing with subjects as mundane as sewage treatment works and phosphate discharges into the river.

We are indebted to Graham Lee at Statfold Barn and look forward to him riding in them on our railway”.

  • I have been meaning to donate since the excellent Winifred Gala last August so these two sleepers represent my arrears in monthly contribution! It's a really exciting project and I'm 100% behind it!
